A man of vision he must be, for it was 1995 when Hayden Nicholas ceremoniously became an Anderson player when he began showing up on stage and in the studio with a matched set of Transparent Forest Green, Tom Anderson Guitars—a Hollow T Classic and The Classic. Hayden plays guitar, co-writes and is the bandleader for Clint Black. In fact they have written over 60 songs together, done 10 albums and have had 15 number one hits. Not too bad I’d say.

Flash forward to early 2001. It could have gone about like this: Clint and Hayden together in the studio working on the new album. Hayden steps out for a moment to check the placement of a drum mic and water his rhododendron. Clint picks up Hayden’s Classic and strums it. He strums it again. He can’t believe his ears; the tone is so complex and so musical. He continues to play and realizes that he cannot put it down. It brings forth its incomparable tone with absolutely effortlessly playability. When Hayden comes back into the room, Clint is still holding The Classic and giving Hayden one of those famously fun Clint looks. Hayden replies, “What?” “Why does your guitar sound and play better than all of mine Hayden?” “Because it’s a Tom Anderson,” Hayden shared. “We have to call them right now!”

And the next thing we know the phone is ringing here at Tom Anderson Guitarworks. Clint spoke with Tom and expressed his desire for a Classic in Translucent Black equipped in a similar manner to Hayden’s.

Editor’s note: Unlike the dramatic contrast of this shade on figured maple, Translucent Black is very dark, almost opaque when applied over swamp ash.

He got it. He loved it. In fact it is the guitar pictured on his latest album cover and on the home page of his web site. It is The Classic with a Swamp Ash body, Maple/Madagascar Rosewood neck and 3 SD single coil-sized pickups.

In fact he loved it so much that while shooting his next video he thought it would be really cool to have a different Tom Anderson guitar in every shot. We loved that idea and responded by sending over a variety of T/As to support the theme. One of the guitars in attendance was a brand new Transparent Black, Hollow Drop Top that we had just completed for Christopher Cross. The guitars came back from the video shoot on 9/10/01 but through a rather unique set of circumstances, Chris let Clint check out the guitar one more time. We sent it back so Clint could see it again and put it through its paces. The date was 09/11/01. We all had other things on our minds that day. The guitar thing would have to wait awhile. Chris said, “What has happened today puts all things in proper prospective and if he wants it, I’ll just have you build another beautiful one—no problem.”

Clint called a few days later and said that he absolutely loved the new Transparent Black, Hollow Drop Top and would like to keep it. This guitar quickly became his number one. So when he called, deeply moved and asking us to join him in assisting the victims of the September 11th attacks with the auction of an Anderson guitar, it was a Hollow Drop Top he chose to wear a stunning American Flag finish. He asked us to build two. One would become his main stage guitar and the other would be offered on eBay’s Auction for America, with all the proceeds going to help rebuild the lives of those who had hope ripped from them. For those with shattered lives, take to heart the flow of help that instantly began to pour forth from loving people everywhere. These people attest to the fact that the world now is aware, hate-filled behavior is no longer acceptable. It is cooperation and support that rules the day and to become conscious of this is to be lifted above the dark clouds that still shroud the view of many. Through acts of goodness all will finally see and join in manifesting a world filled with grace.

This angelic sounding and silky smooth playing American Flag, Hollow Drop is offered for auction on eBay with love from Clint Black and Tom Anderson Guitarworks. Feel free to participate and may the assets collected help in someway with the healing process.
