I began by wanting to tell you that Keith is not merely an amazing guitar player and not just one of the extremely knowledgeable professionals of Gelb Music (one of the most incredible and illustrious music stores on the planet) but he is also a San Francisco Giants season ticket holder and attends nearly all of the team’s baseball games. In fact it seems that all the guys at Gelb Music are giant Giants fans. After all it was Erik who chose to commemorate their hometown team by ordering his Cobra with an orange and black motif.
Being such a big baseball and music fan, Keith is enjoying all that is happening now with the Giants in the World Series and this magnificent Cobra arriving on his doorstep as an addition to his personal Anderson arsenal. Champagne Sparkle was his custom color choice and the first time this shade has ever adorned an Anderson guitar.
It was late in the evening of game 5, the Giants were ahead by a significant margin and I knew Keith was experiencing baseball bliss when my 8 year old son walked up and stood beside me. “What are you doing dad, writing Guitar of the Week?” he asked. “That’s right,” I replied. “What guitar is it?” I told him it was a baseball, World Series, Champagne Sparkle Cobra sort of theme. “Oh,” he replied politely. “Write this instead.”
“There once was a little, peaceful village by the sea and the people who dwelled there called it home and liked it very much. One day a tsunami came and they did not know what to do. Some decided to run, others yelled and cried. One very brave man, named Keith, faced the waves and shot back at them with powerful blasts of champagne from cork-popping bottles. Everyone laughed at him and called him a nincompoop. But he was not discouraged and continued right on popping.
Why, no one knows for sure, but the waves of the tsunami subsided without touching the village. The foolish Keith was now thought of as a hero and the grateful residents wanted to repay him for his bravery. They thought and thought of what gift they could gift him that would be symbolic of his sacrifice—something with champagne but not something to drink. They could only think of one place to turn—Tom Anderson Guitarworks of course.
They asked Tom to build a special Champagne Sparkle, Cobra loaded with cream covered P-series pickups in honor of the blessed event—and the Giants being in the World Series. Yes, Keith had turned the water into champagne and Tom had done likewise with his Cobra.
Although some say this story is mere legend, others tell of a shadowy figure of a man who wears a Giants jersey and strolls the beaches of the village late at night with a champagne colored Cobra sparkling in the moonlight and the sound of an angelic guitar on the wind.”
At this point I’m not sure which story is the real one but what I do know is that Keith will be happy for many baseball seasons to come with his totally unique Champagne Sparkle creation slung over his shoulder. Our new exclusive-to-Anderson stainless steel frets guarantee more than mere effortless playability while his choice of our lower output P1R- pickup in the neck position, counter balanced by a standard P1 at the bridge, merges a thunderous single coil Soapbar tone with an added touch of clarity over Cobra’s usual P1, P3 Soapbar layout.
And that’s the game!
