Hollow Cobra Special

TV Yellow

And as we travel on our journey toward specialness, we recognize more deeply than ever before that the world is a special place, full of life and full of love. If we but keep our attention focused there is delight around every corner and a blessing in every situation. You are attended.

Who could have known that it would come to this? Just when you thought we were headed toward another Atom Special, a Hollow Cobra of the same order appears once again—and so rooted in tradition. It is remarkable that one has not been seen here before. But no, this is the first sighting of TV Yellow.

TV Yellow is a color that first appeared around 1955. Checking in with the brilliant Nate at Willies American Guitars for a historical perspective, he illuminates, “The most commonly recognized view for the appearance of TV Yellow as a guitar color is that worked well under the intense lighting needed for black & white television in 1955. A guitar painted pure white would glare on camera creating a flash effect, not a clear and consistent image. TV Yellow was an off-white shade that enabled it to appear as a proper and well behaved white. However, I think the real reason may be something different. In 1955 television had only been around for about 6 years. Owning one was considered a luxury. These sets were housed in big wooden cabinets and considered furniture for the home as well as a cutting edge electronic devise. Popular at the time for much of the 50’s-era furniture was a process known as pickling to give the wood an off white, whitewashed look where the grain could be seen through the wood. I think these early guitars were stained this color as it was considered a mark of elegance and beauty of the day. It also happened to work well under the television studio lights.”

With this understood, Cobra Special steps forward imbued with TV Yellow, its distinctive Mahogany grain radiating from underneath the finish. Uniting traditional beauty with perfection of playability and tone is realized as a natural attribute of the Cobra Special experience.

Holding on as twin P-Series single coils roar to life, an aggressive push forward with the force of a mild humbucker but embodying the wider aspect ratio that is the signature of a single coil is what makes Ps so appealing and unique.

Hands in place, not for long as fingers are graciously called to soar along the perfectly polished Anderson stainless steel frets, above the landscape of a lavish rosewood fingerboard, while your palm gently brushes along the slick satin-finished Mahogany neck back. An experience that cannot be forgotten in the mind of a guitar player—ever.

Matt could not forget and that is why this Hollow Cobra Special will make an appearance at his store, Guitar Man, in New York City, where it will be coveted. But as with all things, this TV Yellow, Hollow Cobra Special will find its perfect place, in the arms of a guitar player who will use it to aspire to even greater heights.
