A mere seed is always how it begins—just a glimmer of an idea at first, a twinkle in the eye can quickly blossom into something monumental.
Anderson inspiration and the phone rings. It is Brian Meader. Seems he and Mike have been brainstorming.
Brian is the guitar guru extraordinaire at Washington Music Center. He loves and thrives on great guitars—his favorite electrics—Anderson and PRS. Brian has good taste.
Mike is an Anderson owner and player. He proudly steps onto the stage with a Translucent Purple Burst, Cobra S slung over his shoulder. Equipped with the pickup configuration of M1, M1, H2+, Mike can cover or crush just about anything musical that comes his way, on this short-scale Mahogany-based bombshell—beautiful tone and versatility is not a concern—and perfect playability goes without saying. Mike has had a profound Anderson experience—and from that there is no going back. So who would want to?
But Mike is a magnificently magnanimous man. This vision of yellow loveliness is not for him, but for Anna. Anna is his beloved—a good guitar player in her own right with a very beautiful singing voice. Seems Anna not only loves Mike but has also fallen for his Cobra S as well.
It’s an understandable thing, it happens to all guitar players eventually.
So Mike, responding to her deepening love, secretly began to formulate, with Brian Meader of course, what would become Anna’s very own Anderson. During the covert process, Mike and Anna made quite a few pilgrimages to Washington Music Center where they would view the latest arrivals from Anderson—all the while Mike and Brian were acting as casual as could be but taking perfect mental notes of everything Anna would articulate concerning Anderson.
They now knew what neck size, they knew what pickups and they knew what body shape. The final touch came one faithful day as they all gazed in awe upon a Seafoam Green, T Classic that had just arrived and she said, “Oh Mike, I like that, only wouldn’t it be great in yellow? So many vintage colors were the pastel shades like Ice Blue, Baby Blue, Seafoam Green, Surf Green and Fiesta Red but there is no pastel vintage yellow, is there? Well there should have been.” With that astute observation, they bid Brian goodbye and departed.
So, as I was saying earlier, once Anderson inspiration had become a clear mental picture, the phone rang at the Anderson Factory. It was Brian. He explained the whole story, asking if a Hollow T Classic with a slim, sleek all-Maple neck and special array of VA5R, VA5 and TM2 pickups could be done. “Of course,” came the Anderson reply, “it would be our pleasure.” “But here’s the rub,” Brian continued, “it needs to be a beautiful vintage color that never existed—but should have.”
Immediately, an emergency high-level meeting of the Anderson Color Coordination Department convened. Performing a customary background check, it was revealed that many in the healing arts consider yellow to be the primary color that supports physical well-being and vitality (and surprisingly enough purple being the other). Under a yellow sun, it is the color of health and life on this planet.
All checked out and was in sync—except one thing. With the birth of a brand new color that is going to be instantaneously catapulted to vintage status, it needs a name—not just any name but a name befitting its honored distinction.
It was Brian, once again to the rescue, who stated the obvious. “There can only be one name given to this shade for Anna. It must be known as Mellow Yellow.” Why of course, Mellow Yellow! We’re just mad about that name for this new and yet old soft shade…Mellow Yellow—quite rightly—the right name for the right guitar.
