Hollow Cobra S
Maple Top on Mahogany - Cobra
Translucent Green with Binding

This world is full of many wonders that can fill our lives with joy. When we become deeply involved with the interest of our heart it is a catharsis and with it comes health and the feeling of being alive. Few are those who dare to live their dreams but for those that do the rewards are sweet indeed. Creating art through music is such a dream. It can bring beauty to the world and refreshment to the soul. Do not be fooled! Fame and temporary notoriety are not requirements for fulfilling a hearts calling. To all of us our hearts call. A few respond. To some of us the call is to create music. Whether you are a mountain climber, river rafter, car-guy, motorcycle rider, tennis player, golfer or whatever moves you, using the best gear available is uplifting. Not only because it is the best gear but also because it links you to the most progressive and forward thinking minds in your field. You feel a part of the whole. It inspires you and drives you to be greater with less effort. We are fortunate, you and I, for we have found passion.

Being guitar players, here is something that I am sure will heighten the experience. It certainly did for us. It is a Hollow Cobra S in Translucent Green. From the moment we laid eyes on it we were stunned. I think, perhaps, it is the way the green stain took to this particular maple top. It created a deep, rich medium green shade that was further enhanced by the cream colored pickup rings surrounding each pickup. But as they say, “Looks are only skin deep.” Shall we go deeper?

As with all Cobras, a Hollow Cobra S sports a 24 ¾-inch scale length. The wood of the lightweight chambered body is mahogany with a beautifully figured maple top and its effortlessly playing neck features a mahogany back with a Madagascar rosewood fingerboard. Madagascar rosewood can often be distinguished by its slightly reddish brown hue—very beautiful.

The tone resulting from this combination is a thick and powerful focused midrange tone. Utilizing the tightest tolerances in the industry, the neck-to-body joint is a bolt-on design that permits a constant pressure union between neck and body granting maximum sustain and resonance. This along with perfect wood selection, handling and assemble results in what has come to be known as the “Anderson Extended Bandwidth.” It is this that allows Cobra’s inherently thick sound to be clearly heard through the mix—not only offering thick lead tones but articulate clean and distorted rhythm tones as well. Playing this Hollow Cobra S, it is surprising how much sonic color and versatility a guitar of this format can offer and how many styles of music can benefit from its presence. It also may quite possibly be the best guitar on earth for today’s current style of clean rhythm sounds for the verse and huge, distorted crunch tones for the chorus—wonderful for more complex chording.

What if we took an instrument with all this natural talent and let it try its hand at acoustic guitar tones? Well that is exactly what this Translucent Green beauty did and unless you have taken some kind of vow against exquisite plugged-in acoustic guitar tone, you will love it. It is equipped with the Baggs X-Bridge system, which permits you to add acoustic guitar tones to the already exemplary electric tones, or play them alone. Even the completely unplugged tone of this guitar ringing into a quite room is breath taking. But of course it would be, this is where it all starts.

I wonder what Michael’s first words will be when he opens the case at Brook Mays in Dallas, Texas and sees his new Translucent Green, Hollow Cobra S.
