The Classic
Custom Graphics-Chrome Yellow CAT

And if it isn’t enough that Steve is already one of the coolest and nicest guys around, he is also a superb guitar player and the head of sales and marketing for Mesa/Boogie Amplifiers. Could it get any better than that?

But even for Steve there is one thing missing, one thing he must have in order to access everything Boogie—from the unique Mark I sounds that revolutionized the amplifier industry so many years ago to all the lush Mesa tones of today.

Rumor has it that Steve tried showing up at his first few gigs with just an amp and although he and his beautiful Mesa/Boogie looked very good together on stage, no sound emerged. He tried singing while standing atop the amp but he just wasn’t reaching the audience. Those beautiful Mesa tones were locked away. But then like a bolt of lighting from the blue, or an electric shock from playing with the fuse holder while the amp was switched on, he soon realized that something must be plugged into the input jack of the amp for Mesa magic to happen.

The reality of being an electric guitar player had now become very clear to him—he needed one—a guitar I mean—but not just any one—it had to be something amazing! Plugging into the face of a Mesa/Boogie amplifier is a very special event and for Steve, required a very special guitar—one with virtually unlimited abilities—something adept at drawing out all of the lush tonal nuances designed into their amps at “The Home of Tone.” For the performing musician, it is the vital symbiotic relationship between guitar and amp that embodies the complete instrument.

Lured by its striking Chrome Yellow finish, Steve first purchased an Anderson, Swamp Ash, Classic with a Maple/Rosewood neck in Dallas many years ago. He customized it with CAT decals as a tribute to his father who lovingly supported the family and Steve’s musical endeavors for so many years with a successful excavating business in Wisconsin in which they utilized Caterpillar heavy equipment. Perhaps the guitar reminded Steve of home but it definitely turned heads. Although unsurpassed at producing the bounding low-end, airy, delicate mids and sparklingly musical highs for which the finest Swamp Ash instruments are coveted, Steve felt he needed a more assertive single coil sound. He called to discuss his deep musical feelings. After only one session with one of our highly trained Anderson Guitarworks Tonal Therapists, Steve discovered that given his love and infinite knowledge of Mesa/Boogie amplifiers in conjunction with the natural tone his hands produce, he was in fact more perfectly suited to an Alder Classic with a solid Maple neck.

Almost immediately he picked up a very rare Lavender finished Alder, Classic with an all-Maple neck and applied a CAT decal. He was truly in love. The combination of this new guitar through his amps was the stuff dreams are made of. He and his Lavender CAT wowed all who heard it and he played it everywhere.

It was time! He knew what must be done! He removed the decals, wiped a tear from his eye and sold his original Chrome Yellow Classic to a friend who was crazy for the musicality a Swamp Ash Classic offers. But alas, a Lavender CAT does not a Yellow CAT make. Where Chrome Yellow once stood, now only a void remained. A connection had been broken—a connection to many things that were important—even vital perhaps.

Steve called. We would begin again. This time a Chrome Yellow, Alder, Classic with a solid Maple neck and an incorporated CAT graphic as a process of the original paint scheme. What on earth could be better than that?!!

Out of the Swamp Ash of the old arises Steve’s brand new TOM CAT!
