Editor’s note: Once again we will listen in on a presentation at the Temple of Tone. Players and their yaks ascend some of the most daunting peaks of the Himalayas to attend the annual T-talks with Anderson Guitarworks at this most sacred of tonal shrines. In this particular segment, Roy from Anderson Guitarworks is presenting something completely new to the honored attendees—enjoy:
TAGW: Hello and welcome. Thank you all for coming—for joining us at the Temple of Tone once again. Please have a seat and be comfortable—wonderful to have you here. Since our good friend Raji has already passed out the Hollow T Classic commemorative cupcakes in honor of this auspicious occasion, let’s jump right to the heart of the matter, shall we?
TAGW: It’s love…that is the heart of all matters…and that’s it. Nothing else really matters at all. Well, there you have it. Thank you all so much for coming. See you next year.
TAGW: Oh wait…before you go, there was one other thing.
TAGW: By now everybody but everybody knows that the coolest traditional T-style guitar, by far, is the Hollow T Classic, and its solid-body counter part, the T-Classic. It has been such for a long time now. One of these is what you play when you want rippin’ T-tones that jump to the forefront of the mix while being supported by rich low-mids. This is one of the reasons that out of 36 “T” guitars tested in Guitar Player Magazine’s “Tele Shoot Out” in the July 1993 issue, the Hollow T Classic won it all! Man in back: Yes, I did not get as much frosting on my Hollow T Classic commemorative cupcake as the person sitting next to me and I really like frosting. I wish I could get more.
TAGW: All right—fair enough. Look at the hand you raised to ask the question, it has extra frosting—how about that?
Man in back: Oh wow, so it does. How did that get there? Hey, thanks. I’m good.
TAGW: Yes you are good, but it is probably best not to handle the Andys (Anderson Guitars) until treats are done.
TAGW: All right then, moving along, anyone have a question concerning the Hollow T Classic information we were speaking of earlier?
TAGW: Yes, you in the front row…with your hand outstretched and the interesting helmet on, do you have a question?
Audience Helmet Guy: If someone from another planet was to come to earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mere mortals, which T-style Guitar would he/she choose, the T-Classic or the Hollow T Classic?
(Snickers could be heard throughout the audience—after all it is the #1 candy bar in the world and the visitors to the Temple of Tone can get hungry.)
TAGW: Well…huh…interesting question…actually, that is a good question and your helmet is…ah…well it does make a strong statement as to your individuality…so, cool. That is what Rock is all about.
TAGW: Anyway, if I understand you correctly, what you are asking may be: What if you wanted to play a T-Style guitar but wanted it to have “powers and abilities” that a regular T-style guitar may not quite possess—still a total T-guitar vibe—but an utterly amazing instrument that has been redesigned and realigned to emphasize:
• a more mid-focused tone while still remaining traditional in its overall demeanor
• easier and smoother ability to monopolize overdrive astonishingly well
• slinkier, even more effortless feel
• opportunity to increase string gauge to the next level—even if you are only feeling half way up to the challenge
• more legato presentation of notes
• an easier reach between frets
• singing tone with more natural saturation and bloom on the attack
• more forgiving approach for those who are slightly uncomfortable with how “up front” a regular “T” predominately presents everything you play
Audience Helmet Guy: Why yes, that is exactly what I am asking. Is there such a T-guitar? I have never seen or played one.
