Jimmy is a native New Yorker and really great guy. He is the owner of New York’s Guitar and Bass Boutique—an amazingly cool guitar store located right in the heart of New York City. In fact his store is only 3 miles from ground zero and on 9/11 he was there and experienced first hand the attempted destruction of the city he calls home. Concerned, we called him a day or so after the event and even though he was shaken he was ready to carry on with the same courage and heart that all of New York showed to the world—pretty impressive.
A couple of weeks later he called saying that he wanted us to create a very special guitar for his store—a guitar that would symbolize the undying New York/American spirit. He decided a Stars & Stripes motif would do quite nicely. A few minutes after we finished speaking, Clint Black called and commissioned us to do an American Flag, Hollow Drop Top for a charity auction being held on eBay. Rightly so the Clint guitar got a lot of notoriety and brought a large amount of money to help those in need. But now Jimmy’s guitar is ready to make its debut. Technically, it is the original—a guitar conceived by a real New York musician at the moment that New York was on its back and grasping for life. This is Jimmy’s gift to his city, his home and his country.
This one-and-only magnificent memorial guitar is a Pro Am. Its solid alder body and maple neck with an Indian rosewood fingerboard are constructed around a 25 ½-inch scale length allowing it to emote while remaining well grounded in traditional sonic roots. The SA1R, SA1 and H2+ pickups in the neck, middle and bridge positions respectively are asked to lend an ear to the naturally lush tones of this Pro Am and respond appropriately. And of course they do so by offering up large, clear single coil and hum-canceling single coil tones, along with a roaringly musical humbucker that sings with sustain and yet splits with surprising adeptness.
For all but the most seasoned, stepping on stage can sometimes mean a bit of hidden left-hand inhibition. That is when the value of this T/A +.030 neck will be fully appreciated—lighting fast and effortless execution of all your favorite riffs is a confidence builder indeed.
This history-making finish began its process here at Tom Anderson Guitarworks with a radiant coat of pure white paint. Then it was off to our good friend Dan Lawrence at GMW for the graphic application. It returned home for its lustrous clear coat and flawless final assembly.
This very special instrument has been long awaited by Jimmy and his shop mates. It means more to New York than just another electric guitar—much more.
