Drop Top
Maple Top on Alder
Jack's Pacific Blue Burst

It is so good to have you here once more. Happy and joyous holidays to everyone. You are a part of the extended Anderson family and for that we are very pleased.

We have already been receiving emails wondering when the bag will be opened and its gift revealed, but of course we had to wait until all gathered again.

Surely you noticed the heading last week read, “Drop Top.” Your first clue—even though we said, “no peeking,” you couldn’t help yourself. But who could resist? We certainly could not. Even everyone here tried to grab a glimpse for themselves. We finally had to post a guard at the entrance to the bag—might call it a guitar guard—or better yet a peek guard.

And then there was that headstock sticking from the top of the bag. Some kind of a blue something—that’s for sure—if you didn’t see it that way, it’s time to tweak the monitor settings.

Behold, if you please, the very first Drop Top presented to you in Jack’s Pacific Blue Burst. Unveiled, the bursting effect shows this color to be quite a different visual expression from the original, and also beautiful, Jack’s Pacific Blue. I think the pictures speak volumes of its depth of character.

So, I can say no more. Well, there you have it! Thanks for stopping by. That’s it!

Or is it!?

Grab an eggnog, lean forward in your chair and we will divulge more holiday surprises.

Look closely at the single coil-sized pickups—notice anything? Well you shouldn’t because visually they are identical to our SA and SD-Series pickups. However, if you could move within, to their very core, you would find them to be distinctive—to say the least. But in this case, what is important is not what they are like on the inside; what is important is how they sound as they project their inner essence outward.

These are the new SF-series pickups. Quite a quiet hum-canceling single coil-size sonic departure, they sing with the voice of angels—sweet and soft sparkling highs and robustly, rich lows. If we were able to sit together and compare back to back with the SA-series pickups, the variation would be marked. Both have a resonant frequency that emphasizes single coil fullness and potency. But the difference is easily heard with the first strum, as the SFs surround you with a vintage-like sweetness and soothe with finesse not heard before from a hum-canceling design.

Need more?

Using holiday pies as an illustrative simile, the SF pickups are like being hit square in the face with a delicious cream pie—so yummy and smooth—even the initial pick (pie) attack and the resounding resonance is cushioned. The SA-series, on the other hand, are like taking a full face shot from pecan pastry—big and direct—yummy but firm—nice initial softness on impact but bold in its delivery of highs as you can feel the pan beneath the sugary filling. As we said: quite a quiet (hum-canceling) difference.

SFs abound with vintage sweetness that will fill your heart with music and your soul with life. For most players, SFs will correspond to the maple top of a Drop Top in a more pleasing manner. We recommend running them in series (hum-canceling mode) for the true essence to come forth. As with any stack design (vertical humbucking pickup) do not be fooled by the volume increase as the bottom coil is disabled in split mode, simply adjust your gain accordingly on your amp and enjoy the best that hum-canceling single coil-sized pickups have to offer.

Want one more gift to make the season bright? How about revealing location of this new Drop Top? All right then, lower the Cone of Silence and I will whisper the words, Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, Colorado.

Peace and love to all of you for this 2008 New Year, and may wonderful tone and effortless playability always surround and inspire you to greater and greater expressions of your inner artistic nature.
